About High Performance Sport
The New Zealand government investments in, and supports, high performance sport through SPARC.
In 2007 the Government has invested $32 million into High Performance Sport. Ninety per cent of this investment is targeted at - and spent on - national sport organisations (NSOs), athletes or coaches.
How SPARC and NSOs work together
SPARC and NSOs are formally committed to working together to build the performance of our athletes and teams - sharing information and programmes to reach the same goal: international success.
Each NSO has a performance director/high performance manager who leads the development of a high performance plan - this is the basis of our work together. The New Zealand Academy of Sport also provides services - such as sport science, sports medicine and education/professional development - to athletes and coaches.
The High Performance Team
The High Performance team is responsible for policy, governance, evaluation and monitoring, investment, and high performance advisory services.
The Team administers direct investment for international competition, training camps, coaching, athlete support and athlete development.
The High Performance team works directly with NSOs to improve their high performance plans and programmes. The team also works with national coaches and carded coaches, to improve their capability and effectiveness. It provides high performance support services to carded athletes.
NZAS regional operations
The NZAS regional operations are responsible for the delivery of coaching, sport science, sports medicine, athlete career and education services and other performance-focused services.
