How SPARC provides funding to the sport and recreation sector

SPARC directly invests more than $70 million in the sport and recreation sector to help achieve our mission of creating an environment where more New Zealanders participate, support and play.

SPARC uses an investment rather than a grants approach to provide funds for the sport and recreation sector. It is important that taxpayer money is spent strategically and that it makes an actual impact.

Who do we invest in?

Credit: Phil Walter There are more than 15,000 sport and recreation clubs and organisations across New Zealand. Investing in them individually would be impractical and ineffective. SPARC invests in organisations that are best placed in the national, regional and local sport and recreation communities to help us achieve our aims.

Our key partnerships are with national sport organisations, national recreation organisations, regional sports trusts and local authorities. Through these bodies SPARC not only invests funding, but also provides expertise that will improve the quality of the services delivered to their members and participants.
